mse Sponsors Godalming Museum for Second Year
mse is delighted to be supporting the rich heritage of Godalming Museum.
‘This is something extremely close to our hearts, we feel very passionate about the heritage of our towns and giving residents/visitors the opportunity to find out more about where they live. mse occupies a listed building in Guildford and we are excited to be sponsoring the Annual Heritage Open Days in Guildford once again this year’ states Michael Ginsberg, Senior Partner at mse
Godalming Museum was originally established in 1921 in the upper portion of the old town hall ‘The Pepperpot’, opening for just 6hrs a week and hosting around 3000 visitors. Today, the museum is situated in a listed medieval building across the road with exposed oak beams dating back to 1446, it now opens 25 – 30 hours a week and welcomes an increased number of 16,000 visitors a year.
The Museum has proved extremely popular over the years and has recently undergone a further refurbishment. Everyone is welcome, there are an array of things to see and do; explore the story of Godalming with a rich industrial past through the various displays of arts and crafts of local interest, follow the trails demonstrating how the town has changed over the last six centuries, use the touch objects and/or interactive computers for instant access to Godalmings’ heritage. Local schools and family history researchers also benefit from the local studies library, which holds a vast collection of photos and papers on local characters, history and events. Ideal as a research tool for any school project! The museum is keen to welcome new visitors along and during the holiday season, it offers fun activities for children encouraging them to get involved.
In addition to the wealth of information available at the museum, there is a small café offering light refreshments and a beautiful, tranquil Gertrude Jekyll style courtyard garden.
